Valerie B. Wylie is the Executive Director of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, Inc.  As Executive Director, Ms. Wylie directs daily operations and fundraising for the organization.

Valerie B. Wylie was born in Washington, DC, and moved with her family to Caracas, Venezuela before she was a year old. She grew up in Caracas and in the oil camps of Amuay and Caripito.  At age 15 her father relocated to Tripoli, Libya. She attended Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, Virginia, and Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa.  She is a graduate of the Institute for Organizational Management at Notre Dame.

Since 1979, Val has worked in not-for-profit organizations in the Fox Cities.  She is the founding Director of the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau where she led the organization for 14 years.  Most recently she has been the Executive Director of the Shawano Area Chamber of Commerce.

Her other experiences include:  Information & Referral Center, Fox Cities, executive director; United Migrant Opportunity Services, Appleton, manpower specialist; Fox Valley Technical College, teacher of English as a second language.

She resides in Appleton, WI, and has two children and two grandchildren.

Barb Sauer is the Managing Director & Educational Coordinator of the Paper Discovery Center. Her main responsibilities at the Paper Discovery Center are to manage permanent and temporary traveling exhibits, manage archive collection, and assist with the development and implementation of educational programs.

Barb grew up in Northern New Jersey, near New York City. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.   She worked for Kimberly Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin for 19 years in research & development. Her experience ranges across many business sectors, including: feminine care, adult care, new business, and consumer tissue. She also held positions ranging from 'fuzzy front end' concept development to commercial implementation and manufacuring support.

Barb obtained a Master's Degree in Education from National Louis University by attending evening and weekend classes. She has taught science in middle and high school.

Barb lives in Fremont, WI with her husband Bob, who also worked at Kimberly Clark for 20 years, her daughter Claire, and her son Cory.

Her favorite past times include enjoying the outdoors - skiing, biking, canoeing, or hiking.



David Lee, Educator

David Lee is the Educator for the Paper Discovery Center. Dave’s main responsibilities include the development, coordination and presentation of educational programs.

Dave was raised in Appleton. He graduated from Ripon College with a degree in chemistry, and later received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Dave began his career as a project chemist at Bergstrom Paper Company (now known as Glatfelter Papers). During his thirty-three years with the company, he held positions including technical superintendent, production manager, and mill manager.

Prior to accepting the position of Educator, Dave’s recent experience includes serving as an adjunct instructor of chemistry at Ripon College. He had been a volunteer at the Paper Discovery Center since its opening and has chaired the Education and Exhibits committees at the Paper Discovery Center. His most rewarding moments are seeing the enjoyment of the Paper Discovery Center’s visitors, responding to their insightful questions about paper and papermaking, and being asked “What is hydrogen bonding?”

Dave and his wife, Susan (also a volunteer with the Paper Discovery Center), reside in Appleton.
