Events

High School Science Scholars Institute,July 28 & 29, August 1,4,5,& 8.

Interested high school sophomores and juniors can apply to this program. The application deadline is May 23, 2008 .

The program is limited to 20 students. The cost is $100, but upon satisfactory completion, attendees will receive a $75 scholarship.

The science scholars institute will run from 9:00am - 3:00pm on Mondays & Tuesdays and from 9:00am-12:00 on Fridays (last week of July & first week of August).

The benefits include: Gain exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) careers through field trips, mentor lunches, and guest speakers. Enhance your science content by learning about the science of paper and by researching a topic in-depth to create an exhibit. Hone your skills in creative problem solving and team work.

Boy Scout Pulp & Paper Merit Badge Workshop, available upon request.

Boy Scouts can earn their Pulp & Paper Merit Badge in this one day workshop. Contact Dave Lee of the Paper Discovery Center at 920-380-7491, or e-mail him, dave@paperdiscoverycenter.org. The workshop is limited to 35 students. Participants must pick up and read the Pulp & Paper merit badge book before the workshop. Cost is $10 payable at the door.


Bound to Surprise, Artists' book display, April 1 - May 31, 2008.

An exhibit exploring the definition of the word book. Each artist in the exhibit created works of art within the guidelines of the definition of a book, bringing their own personal experiences and using a variety of ideas, materials and media. Click here for more details.


Teacher Crime Investigation workshop.

Teachers who missed our crime investigator workshop in April 2008, can make an appointment for an overview of the workshop while supplies last. A chemist with the PDC in Appleton has created 100 CI case studies that involve paper. As well as the story behind the crime, each packet contains a list of analytical tests, a chronology of paper additives (for verifying authenticity), and copies of IR spectra. You'll solve a case hands-on & receive materials for your classroom. To set up an appointment, call 380-7491, or e-mail, Barb Sauer barb@paperdiscoverycenter.org.


Special Science Days, the 3rd & 4th Thurs thru Saturday of June, July, and August.
On these days visitors can participate in science experiments and watch science demonstrations. All this is in addition to the everyday fun of our permanent exhibits at the Paper Discovery Center. Each week will focus on a different science topic which will be posted 2 weeks beforehand.
